| Waitrose in Dubai deal to open first stores abroad
Waitrose said it had signed a licensing deal with supermarket retailer Spinneys under which selected stores will carry the Waitrose fascia in Dubai, the first of which will open in April, 2008. Two more Waitrose branches will open in July and October, with a further 20 planned over the next two years. Spinneys has been selling a wide range of Waitrose products in the UAE, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and neighbouring Oman, since 2004. "This agreement is set to accelerate export trade for Waitrose and marks a significant milestone in our international ambitions," Richard Hodgson, commercial director for Waitrose, said in a statement on its Web site on Saturday. Bells will be ringing
You know it's Christmastime when you hear the bells ringing and see the red kettles around town."The kettle is a holiday icon," Dawn Baskett of Dalton says. "I get a kick out of seeing those smiling faces beside the red pots when I'm running around at Christmastime. It puts a little extra pep in my step and raises my holiday cheer. I can't pass one by without giving something."That's what Maj. Henry Hunter, Corps officer for the Salvation Army in Whitfield and Murray counties, is counting on. "Community generosity is vital to our efforts to provide services, not only at Christmas time, but throughout the year. The kettles are our last thrust of the year at making people aware that we are on the front line," he said. The public's contributions to the kettles enables the Salvation Army to bring the spirit of Christmas to those who might otherwise be forgotten – to the aged and lonely, and to the poor and unfortunate.

It’s an individual plan."It will be fun at the end to see what the winners did to lose the weight," Tunget said.A good number of this year’s participants are repeat participants from the first year.
Much ado about next to nothing
Many of the car drivers were familiar with her Sunday routine and took appropriate care when nearing her. Some slowed to offer a ride but she always refused politely. She always blessed them. She continued in this manner for almost two hours, sometimes longer depending on weather or road construction, until she reached the entrance to the parking lot of the hospital. She remembered when she could make the walk in less time, but that seemed long ago. She made her way to a fenced area in the back of the hospital and pushed through the gate. Inside the fence lay a manicured courtyard landscaped with gardenias, camellias, azaleas and various grasses and flowers. The azaleas were not in bloom. Patients sat on benches or strolled the courtyard, some accompanied by visitors, some alone. Some called her name in greeting.
