Super Savings

When shopping for gas, clothing or food, you probably compare prices in an effort to save money. But do you do the same when you purchase prescription drugs? Whether you have health insurance or not, it pays to do a little research.

Eyewitness News found one family who ended up saving plenty. The Rushes are high school sweethearts were married six years ago. Chris is starting up an online fashion boutique working 40 to 60 hours a week. His wife Carly cuts hair. But like many Americans, this family of four has no health insurance. They pay more than $400 out of their own pocket for their son Jahger's asthma medication.

The Pulimocort prescription alone costs $380.99 a month. The Rushes typically fill that prescription at the Super Target on 116th Street in Fishers. But we found that if they drove just ten blocks north to the Walgreens, they could get the same Pulimocort for $215.99. That's a savings of $175.

'I had to empty his drainage bags'

And so it goes on, as if these people were as familiar to us all as the Beckhams, or Gordon Brown.

· Because people feel vaguely guilty about travel these days, they often find it necessary to justify their trips with philosophical musings. This woman from London took eight foreign trips last year. She is a mistress of fake self-criticism, as in this bicycle trip to Austria. "We needed speed to complete the ride, but it was no good. I was a slacker, stopping to smell the flowers, admire the views, visit medieval churches, drink the wines and sing, while biking along." But all is not well. "By the time we finished the tour, I sensed another side to Austrians, an underbelly ... deep buried in their national and individual psyche was a denial of their undoubted foul activities, and a lust for the spoils of war." Luckily their next trips are to Chile and Iceland, two nations which apparently lack foul underbellies.

Going beyond ‘helping the poor’ to build community spirit

The brothers fix computers in a makeshift shack in front of their home to make sure they can cover personal expenses and provide JD3 a day for Mahmouds transportation to the university.

Omar has an interview this week to study at the internationally recognised SAE media arts institute which offers studies in animation, filmmaking and audio engineering.

Interested in Omars talent, the Ruwwads director said that she would work with him to find ways to cover the JD6,000 annual school fee.

I found out that he was apprehensive about the expensive fees and felt that since he already has a degree in nursing he would rather have the centre send several other local students instead of paying for him to pursue his passion.

She added that he comes to volunteer every day quietly and has never asked anyone for payment.
