Orlando Premium Outlets' owner buys Dixie Stampede

The mystery buyer of Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede is little more than a stone's throw from the now-shuttered dinner attraction on Interstate 4 near Walt Disney World.

The parent company of the Orlando Premium Outlets shopping center confirmed Tuesday that it holds the contract to buy the property at 8251 Vineland Ave. The company, Chelsea Property Group, is a division of Simon Property Group, the nation's biggest shopping-mall owner and operator.

Chelsea officials wouldn't elaborate on their plans for the 13-acre site, which is across Vineland Avenue from Orlando Premium Outlets.

Shopping for Answers: Tall girls need options, too, for pants, coats

DEAR SHOPPING: Like other 16-year-old girls, I'm always trying to find trendy clothes that compliment my body. But I'm also 6-foot-2. Being this tall makes it impossible for me to find cute clothes that fit my 38-inch inseam and thin frame. I read where you suggested Alloy and was very happy with their jeans, but where can I find (even if online) a place that carries really tall clothes that a teen would find appealing? With the cold weather, I really need long-sleeve shirts and coats, something I've never been able to find.

– Kelly, Sacramento

DEAR KELLY: Online is, indeed, one of the best options for finding cute clothes for taller teens. I checked with a couple of "tall" sources who share your shopping dilemma. While a variety of mainstream stores carry tall sizes, it seems most of them sell only via catalogs or the Internet.

I'm hungry

I became the graphics editor, but that position eventually morphed into the online editor, the title I currently have. The online editor job has many facets, some not so fun, some great. The best part of my job is often shooting video. It gets me out of the office and get out of the daily grind. The videos I produce are fun, sometimes newsy, but mostly different than what would show up on the evening news. I'm lucky - my video doesn't have to fit into a news cast or between commercials. There are down sides too - people are only starting to embrace video on the web and much of our gear is much closer to the consumer end than the professional end of the spectrum. As we get more involved in producing video we add more, and better, equipment.

Witnesses Describe Shooting Scene

It is sad that he wanted to take his own life, but to add to that the lives of others. It truly shows though the times we are living in. Sad as well is the environment that provides some of the fuel for the ideas. Parents think for a moment, the games, drugs, etc... I am not saying that the parents are to blame, that I don't know. I have a young son (3) and I will say that if I had older children, they would not be permitted to have some of the games, movies, etc that fuel some of the ideas these kids get. It just simply would not be an option. Some parents I think give in so quickly to their children, letting them play violent games, watch violent movies, and hang out with bad associates. And over all are not really involved with their kid's lives when you think about it. My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this.

Japan's hard call on weak economy

AUSTRALIA'S largest export market might have sunk into recession amid concerns a US slowdown will stall global growth.

The warning from Goldman Sachs Group about the Japanese economy came as Asian markets fell heavily. Tokyo's Nikkei lost almost 4 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index 4.25 per cent.

In early European trade last night the main markets were all weaker but steady, losing between 1 and 2 per cent.

Goldman Sachs said Japan -- the world's second-largest economy after the US -- had been hit by sluggish consumer demand, an appreciating currency and a plunge in its housing market.

Tetsufumi Yamakawa, chief Japan economist at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo, said in a report: "It appears highly likely that the economic expansion that has continued for nearly 70 months since early 2002 has come to an end and the economy has entered a recession for now."

Lehman Brothers economist Hiroshi Shiraishi said Japan was "on the brink" of a recession.

Just Say “No” — Again — to Goleta General Plan Amendments

In 2006, a new Goleta City Council majority was elected, in part based on their claims that Goleta's General Plan did not reflect the true wishes of Goleta residents and that it had to be changed. Early in 2007, the city's planning staff was authorized to conduct a process to “open up" the General Plan to consider amendments originated mostly by land owners, developers, and special interest groups. The council allocated more than $350,000 for staff support and workshops for public input, plus environmental analysis. Since then, the public's input has shattered the notion that there is discontent with the current plan, as the information below illustrates. It is time to move on.

Over the course of five public workshops during this past summer and fall, staff presented 77 potential amendments to the General Plan, including 33 proposed by the Bacara Resort.
